Introduction to Char Dham Yatra

Char Dham Yatra is considered to be a very famous journey of our Hindu religion. Many things are heard about this journey. There are also many beliefs that are believed about this journey. In the Char Dham Yatra, 4 famous temples of our Hindu religion are visited. These four temples are dedicated to different Gods. All the four temples have different beliefs.

It is also believed that the one who visits these four temples moves forward on the path of salvation. Salvation has been described as the main objective in Hinduism.


Char Dham Yatra Temples :

Char Dham Yatra is such a journey that every creature of Hindu religion wants to do. Four famous temples are visited in Char Dham Yatra. Kedarnath is the first temple in this. Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. And this is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples. The second temple is Badrinath. This temple Badri Bhagwan is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in other words. The third temple is Gangotri. This temple is dedicated to Ganga Mata. The fourth temple is Yamunotri. This temple is dedicated to Yamuna. It is believed that one who visits these four temples once takes a step forward on the path of attaining salvation. Every person must do Char Dham Yatra once in his life time. Char Dham Yatra is considered to have great religious importance in our Hindu religion.

It means that the person who has traveled to the four worlds in his life has become free from all the sins of his life. Great importance of Yatra has also been given in our Shiva Purana. If you too have not yet gone on Dham Yatra, then you must definitely do Char Dham Yatra.

One gets freedom from birth and death: By visiting Char Dham one gets freedom from birth and death. It is believed that the person who does the Yatra once, all the ways of attaining salvation are open for him. He goes one step ahead on the path of attaining salvation. Attainment of salvation is such a path by which we become free from this cycle of birth and death.

How to Travel Char Dham Yatra ?

The Char Dham Yatra is a passage to four holy spots, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, in Uttarakhand, India. These spots are considered the most important Hindu passage spots and are visited by thousands of people with substance every time.


Then’s a step- by- step companion on how to travel to Dham….


Step 1 Plan Your Trip

The first step in starting the Char Dham Yatra is planning your trip. This includes fixing trip dates, arranging accommodation and transportation, and making sure all necessary permits and documents are in place. It’s recommended to plan the trip in advance, especially during the peak season( May to June and September to November) when the passage spots are crowded.


Step 2 Reach Haridwar/ Rishikesh

Char Dham Yatra starts from Haridwar/ Rishikesh which are well connected to major metropolises of India. It’s advised to reach one of these places a day before the inception of the trip to insure acceptable rest and medication for the onward trip.
Step 3 Start the Journey
The first destination of the Char Dham Yatra is Yamunotri, positioned at an altitude of,293 measures in Uttarkashi quarter. From Haridwar/ Rishikesh, people with substance can take a hack or machine to reach the base camp of Yamunotri, which is a 6- hour drive.


Step 4 Yamunotri

Yamunotri is the source of the swash Yamuna, and the main magnet then’s the Yamunotri Temple, devoted to Goddess Yamuna. The tabernacle is located at a 6 km journey from the base camp, and people with substance can either walk or hire a pony/ palanquin to reach the tabernacle. According to Hindu tradition, the tabernacle was erected by the Pandavas after the Mahabharata war. The tabernacle is girdled by snow- limited mountains and is located on the banks of the Mandakini River, which adds to the beauty of the place. The armature of the tabernacle is unique, with a slanting roof made of monuments and a pillared hall that has intricate busts on it. The tabernacle is open to callers from April to November, and during the downtime season, it remains closed due to heavy snowfall.

Step 7 Badrinath

Badrinath Temple, on the other hand, is positioned at an altitude of,415 measures above ocean position and is devoted to Lord Vishnu, another top deity of the Hindu religion. The tabernacle is believed to have been erected by Adi Shankaracharya, a great champion and leftist of Hinduism. The tabernacle is located on the banks of the Alaknanda River and is girdled by snow- limited mountains, which add to the scenic beauty of the place. The tabernacle has a unique armature, with a conical-structured roof made of gold gilt, and is adorned with intricate busts and puppets. The tabernacle is open to callers from April to November and remains closed during the downtime season due to heavy snowfall.

Important tips During char Dham Yatra

1. The journey can be started from Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun as per your convenience.
2.Do not forget to carry necessary documents like Aadhaar card, driving license, or passport with you on the journey.
3.Char Dham Yatra facility is available for the pilgrims on foot and by helicopter.
4.Biometric registration is mandatory for Char Dham Yatra. Booking can be done both offline and online.
5.People who are unable to walk can also travel by palanquin, horse and pittu.
6.Carry warm gloves, jacket, sweater, woolen socks and raincoat during the journey.
